Geothermal Ukraine at the European Geothermal Congress 2025 in Zurich

10/2025

From October 6–9, the Geothermal Ukraine team, represented by Executive Director Taras Popadynets and Board Member Yuliia Demchuk, participated in the European Geothermal Congress 2025 (#EGC2025) in Zurich, Switzerland. Organized by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC), the event brought together over 1,000 experts, policymakers, business leaders, technology providers, and scientists from across Europe and the world.

During three productive days, the team held numerous discussions and negotiations with partners involved in current projects, as well as with new companies and organizations, including: DTESS, TNO, Baseload Capital, NORCE Research, KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), BWG Geochemische Beratung GmbH, MANERGY, QHeat, SINTEF, CoSviG Scrl, Baker Hughes, ThinkGeoEnergy, and many others. These meetings provided an excellent opportunity to explore joint initiatives, identify new areas for cooperation, discuss prospects for pilot projects, and collaborate on regulatory developments and the formation of a geothermal market in Ukraine, while expanding our international network.

Additionally, the GEOSYN project team, of which NGO Geothermal Ukraine is a consortium member, presented a poster at the event. This highlighted the consortium’s innovative approach and collaborative efforts in advancing geothermal energy and promoting industrial decarbonization across Europe.

For the Ukrainian team, participation in EGC2025 was particularly significant. The congress not only served as a platform for building international partnerships but also allowed the team to showcase Ukraine’s geothermal potential, discuss challenges, and explore solutions together with European colleagues.

Looking ahead, Geothermal Ukraine is committed to implementing these ideas and further developing international collaboration, opening new opportunities for geothermal energy in Ukraine.
